uzrswl / uzairsawal
uzrswl (or uzairsawal) is a sound artist, cultural activist, venue owner, music curator, and DJ currently based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Known for interweaving grooves made for dancing and obscure rhythms, uzairsawal refuses to be pigeonholed to a particular genre or tempo and prefers to build his DJ set according to the room he plays for to showcase his vast musical knowledge and record collection.
From playing extended hours of cosmic disco and house with a lot of break samples to playing high energy ragga-influenced bass-heavy sets in dark sweaty rooms, or funk-soul-reggae-jazz vinyl sets at a beachside bar to ambient and downtempo at art gallery parties; best believe uzairsawal can provide the right soundtrack for almost all kind of environments.
After founding a music-focused community space, fono, he have been given the trust to curate in house music and programming for local businesses like Shhhbuuuleee, V88 Starhill, and Tanba BBQ TRX. His musical taste is recognised globally and was invited to festivals abroad such as Strange Sounds From Beyond and Nos Magia Fest in The Netherlands, Wonderfruit and Hatyai Dub Camp in Thailand, Bass Camp in India, and most recently, Grasslands Festival in Nepal. uzairsawal also has recorded radio shows for influential online radio stations, from NTS (London, UK) to Red Light Radio (Amsterdam, NL), and Singapore Community Radio to Sabai Sabai Radio (Bangkok, Thailand).
